Sadio Mane has encountered a mixed start to his career at Bayern Munich, prompting a German columnist to call out the forward for ‘messing everything up’ and claiming the former Liverpool man ‘fits in like tofu and white sausage’.

Mane signed for Bayern in the summer for €32 million as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who joined Barcelona, and the Senegalese international has netted eight goals in all competitions so far this season.

However, just four of those goals have come in the league and Bayern sit third in the Bundesliga, putting their pursuit of an 11th straight title in jeopardy.

Mane has seemingly failed to convince critics of his ability and a reporter for German outlet Sport1 launched a bizarre attack on the 30-year-old and claimed the player’s departure ‘was celebrated in Liverpool’.

Sport1 columnist Alex Steudel wrote: “The man fits into the Bayern team like tofu into the white sausage. Mané messes everything up.

“Sometimes he plays on the left and, of all people, pushes Leroy Sané to the right, sometimes he plays in the center of the attack, where he is hopelessly overwhelmed. Mané is the field walker who never arrives.

“And it's been like this all the time, but nobody says it out loud: Mané for Lewandowski – who actually came up with this nonsense?

“The man is obviously no longer a top scorer. With Mané, the Bayern attack is in constant imbalance. Everyone can see it. The result: Worst start to the season since 2010. Mané is not solely responsible, but he bears a fair share of the blame.

Kahn: Mane and De Ligt only had eyes for Bayern

Meanwhile, Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn has claimed that Mane and Matthijs de Ligt only wanted to join the Bavarians when they signed in the summer.

De Ligt is believed to have rejected an offer from Chelsea among other sides to move to Bayern from Juventus for €67m and he, along with Mane, have become regulars in Julian Nagelsmann’s team.

“He (Mane) only wanted to come to us from Liverpool and not to any other club. I'm convinced we'll have a lot of joy with this world-class player in the years to come," Kahn said.

"The same applies to Matthijs de Ligt - a player whom almost every top club in Europe wanted to sign, but only wanted to join us.”
