Indeed, Mac Allister of Brighton, a World Cup winner, is regarded as an option.

The 24-year-old played a big part, alongside Fernandez, in Argentina's triumph and it’s a partnership that could be used at Stamford Bridge should Chelsea make the move for him.

Furthermore, manager Graham Potter has experience working with the Seagulls star when he was down the south coast.

Mac Aillster can play a range of roles in midfield - while there are indications that he will depart his current side in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Argentine could well be used if the Blues revert back to the 433 formation, a system that his home nation used during the World Cup to great effect, with Rodrigo De Paul on the other side.

Brighton are holding firm, however, saying that tey do not want to sell, while they have an extensive list of players who are being looked at by rival clubs and they won’t be willing to sell them all.

Mac Allister's future

Writing for CaughtOffside, Fabrizio Romano claimed that the player will be willing to make the move should a top club come in and make a bid for him.

The Italian reporter said: ‘I’m told Alexis Mac Allister has chances to leave in the summer as he’d love a top club move, but Brighton guarantee they’ve not fixed a price tag yet and I guess is going to be another big fight to sign Brighton star in the summer."

Meanwhile, Mac Allister said in an interview with Sky Sports: If a good offer comes for the club and for me then we will make a decision but I like to live in the present and I am really happy here at Brighton.”
