PSG's Mauro Icardi set for Serie A return

Mauro Icardi has been left out of PSG's squad for their Ligue 1 opener against Clermont, and it looks like Serie A sides are now queueing up to give him a way out of his Parisian prison.
Icardi has scored 43 goals in all competitions for Paris Saint-Germain since swapping Inter Milan for the French capital in 2019, initially on loan.
But with Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar for competition on the final third, starts at the Parc des Princes have been at a premium.
Icardi's all-too-public private life is also a point of concern for the Ligue 1 champions, with wife and agent Wanda Nara and he most recently taking to social media to deny that they were getting divorced amid claims Icardi cheated.

But now first club Sampdoria could be ready to bring the striker back to Serie A.
Two-way tussle
"Monza are dreaming of a move for the 29-year-old and they've been in talks with the Ligue 1 side in recent weeks to explore a possible deal," write Football Italia.
"[But] they’re now facing competition from Sampdoria, who emerged recently following the possible involvement of the film entrepreneur Franco Di Silvio in the acquisition of the club. Also involved in that takeover are the Al Thani family, owners of PSG."
Icardi is ranked at €27m by Football Transfers' sophisticated in-house algorithm, and his existing PSG deal runs until June 2024.

Borussia Dortmund have also been credited with an interest in Icardi as they look to replace Sebastien Haller, but the Argentine would prefer a move to Italy, where he spent 10 years from 2009.
Sampdoria finished 15th in Serie A last season, just six points clear of the relegation places. Monza were promoted through the Serie B playoffs, beating Pisa 6-4 on aggregate.
They are owned by Silvio Berlusconi, the former Italian Prime Minister who bankrolled AC Milan's dominance in the early 1990s.
