Mustafi sends heartfelt message to Arsenal ‘family’

Shkodran Mustafi has sent a heartfelt message for Arsenal fans after bringing a four-and-a-half-year stay in London to an end in order to join Schalke

Signed from Valencia for a fee in the region of £35m, the Germany international largely failed to live up to expectations at the Emirates Stadium.

He made 102 appearances for the Gunners but ultimately earned himself a reputation for making costly mistakes.

And that led to manager Mikel Arteta sanctioning his departure on a free transfer this month, six months before the expiry of his contract.

“After four years, 151 matches and two FA Cup trophies, I just wanted to say thank you to the Arsenal community, our great staff, the fans, and of course my teammates,” Mustafi’s statement read.

“Together we went through good and not so good times but we stood together.

“Arsenal is a fantastic club with a great tradition and I always felt that it is a pleasure and an honor to wear the AFC jersey.

“My family and I will always remember the time we had in London and with Arsenal. Gooners, I wish you all the best! Thank you!”
