Xavi is set to become the next Barcelona manager after Qatari side Al Sadd confirmed that they had agreed a compensation fee to allow the manager to return to Spain.

The former midfielder is now set to be appointed as the next manager of the Catalan side, who are in desperate need of some good news after a poor start to the season.

However, Barca certainly aren’t the all-conquering club that Xavi left in 2015 and alongside a poor squad of players, the young manager will have to contend with some extremely strict financial burdens.

What will Xavi's contract look like?

It had been reported that Barcelona would have to agree a fee with Al-Sadd for the hiring of Xavi as head coach.

But, according to Sport, the previously mentioned €1million will not have to be paid.

In terms of Xavi's new contract, he will be taking on a significantly lower salary than at the Qatari club.

The 2010 World Cup winner earned an annual salary of €10m in his time as a player, AS reported, and many believe that would have risen since becoming head coach of the team.

And while a figure is yet to be announced, he will undoubtedly earn a salary far less than that with the Catalan giants.

That's because Barcelona are in a deep financial predicament, hence the departure of club legend Lionel Messi in last summer's transfer window.

In fact, Xavi's contract length might have something to do with Barca's financial troubles too.

Despite both parties recognising that a long-term project is required to bring the club back to its glory days, Xavi has only been offered a deal running until the end of the 2023-2024 campaign.

Perhaps this is because Barcelona want to be able to dismiss the legendary midfielder, should he fail to succeed, without paying a large compensation fee.
