Manchester United should be looking to sell Paul Pogba, says Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher, who doesn’t believe the World Cup winner is a “great” player.

The Red Devils as a whole have struggled this season and are currently 14th in the Premier League table with 10 points taken from their opening seven matches. Pogba has been in and out of the team, and recently gave away a crucial penalty against Arsenal in a match which Utd lost 1-0 at home.

Carragher admits that, when United signed Pogba, he thought the Frenchman might have the same impact on the team the way that Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, and Yaya Toure had on their respective clubs.

  • But, he now says Pogba cannot be compared to that trio, and that Man Utd should look to sell him.

“Would I pick him in the Manchester United team? No, I wouldn’t. He’s a huge name, he’s come for a huge transfer fee, but I don’t think he’s a great player,” the Sky Sports analyst told talkSPORT.

“People say he’s won the World Cup and I get that. But when he came in I thought he might have the impact like Lampard at Chelsea, Gerrard at Liverpool, Yaya Toure at Man City – those players drove their team to titles, European Cups.

“When you’re that man who’s seen as the one to take United to the next level, which people might say it’s too much pressure to put on one man, but that’s what we were told was coming.

“It just hasn’t happened for him at Manchester United. For me, I’d be looking to move him on.”

Carragher reckons that some of Pogba’s failures come from his lack of discipline, and believes he and Bruno Fernandes can’t play together as they are the two most undisciplined players in he entire league.

“Fernandes and Pogba are not disciplined,” he suggested.

“They are probably two of the most undisciplined players in the Premier League. You can maybe carry one but you can’t play the two of them. It’s one or the other.

“I do not believe Pogba and Fernandes can play in the same team so you have to play Fernandes and he has played really well since he joined.”

In terms of a transfer away from Man Utd, Pogba said during the last international break that it would be a “dream” to move to Real Madrid at some point in his career.

He has also been linked with a move back to former club Juventus to link up with former team-mate Andrea Pirlo, who is now in charge at the Allianz Stadium.
