Thomas Muller insists his Bayern Munich team must do everything in their power to tie down in-form winger Kingsley Coman.

And Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann echoed Muller's words, describing Coman as one of the "top wingers on this planet".

France winger Coman has made a remarkable return to the Bayern first team after undergoing heart surgery in September to correct an irregular heartbeat.

He followed up a sparkling display in the 4-0 Champions League victory over Benfica with a goal and an assist in a Bundesliga triumph over Hoffenheim.

And with his contract due to expire in 2023, the German giants are starting to consider their options on whether they should extend his deal or cash in on him next summer.

What did Muller say?

Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of the DFB Pokal game at Borussia Monchengladbach, Muller was asked if Coman should be kept.

"If that works, keeping him, that would be great - for us as a team and for the whole club," says Muller.

"But we all know that many factors have to be right and I'm not in enough detail as to whether that's possible. But we like to have him here because he's not only a good player, he's also a great guy."

What did Nagelsmann say?

Head coach Nagelsmann was asked about Coman and was full of praise for the 25-year-old Frenchman. He said: "King is an outstanding person with an incredibly great personality. He is incredibly polite and friendly.

"Of course, I would like to work with him for many years to come, because I just appreciate him incredibly."

And the Bayern boss maintained there is no better winger in the world when Coman is fit.

He said: "Thank God he is now healthy again and in my eyes one of the top wingers on this planet if he is healthy.

"In training, he's a great finisher with both feet. In recent years, he has used a little too much power in one situation or another, even though he has an outstanding technique."

Will Coman get a new deal?

Coman's contract talks with Bayern in the past have come to nothing as both parties cannot agree on the players' salary demands.

Coman scored the winning goal in the 2020 Champions League final and is estimated to get around €12 million gross per year.

He wanted to double that salary, demanding around €20m.

There are no signs that a breakthrough between club and player is on the horizon. However, if Coman continues to prove himself an invaluable member of the squad, it may force Bayern's hand.

Bayern have a backup plan if no contract is agreed.

The club have been closely monitoring the progress of German striker Karim Adeyemi and could part with around €30-40m for the RB Salzburg player.

And the sale of Coman could fund this move.
