Barcelona 'accelerate' towards stunning Son Heung-Min January transfer
Barcelona are said to be ‘accelerating’ towards a move to sign Son Heung-Min in January, with the Los Angeles FC star ready to make a short-term switch back to Europe.
Son joined LAFC in the summer from Tottenham after ten years in the Premier League and the South Korean legend has had an electric start to life in the MLS, scoring nine times in his first ten matches.
The regular MLS season has since wrapped up, while the playoffs will end in December before a break until March, giving room for Son to join a club on loan in January until the start of the new campaign in the US.
Son is understood to have a clause in his contract allowing him to join a club in Europe on a short-term loan, similar to moves that stars such as David Beckham and Thierry Henry made during their time in the MLS.
While Son could choose to rest and recover ahead of the new campaign, the 33-year-old may also wish to continue his momentum to ensure he is in the best form for his country in next summer’s World Cup.
European sides such as Milan have been credited with an interest, although Fabrizio Romano has denied reports of talks being underway with the Italian side, but Barcelona could now emerge as contenders for the forward’s signature in January.
Barcelona at ‘forefront’ of Son transfer
According to fichajes, Barcelona see Son as a way to add ‘experience, goals and charisma’ to their squad with minimal financial commitment during a time of transition and injuries.
The La Liga giants are said to be at the ‘forefront’ of a ‘shrewd operation’, with Barca hoping to move quickly to beat their rivals to his signature.
A move to former club Tottenham has also been suggested but it is more likely that Son looks to recover and focus on his fitness ahead of the new season with LAFC.
Much will depend on how LAFC’s post-season goes as they compete for the MLS Cup, as well as the proposals on the table and the timings of the move, indicating that Son’s future may not be resolved until December at the earliest.
