This means that United will have to surpass the initial figure of €74m that they paid when they bought Hojlund from Atalanta in 2023.

That is Atalanta's biggest ever sale but the Dane has proved to be a big disappointment at Old Trafford.

Will Ederson join Man Utd?

The Red Devils have made the Brazilian their top target to strengthen the centre of their midfield at the end of the season.

AS reports that United are prepared to pay around €60m for Ederson, who has interest from multiple other top clubs, with Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Juventus all big fans of the player.

Ederson is regarded as possibly the most consistent central midfielder in Serie A over the last two years.

He really sold himself to a worldwide audience with his brilliant performance in Atalanta's Europa League final win over Bayer Leverkusen last year.

Ederson's deal in Bergamo expires in 2027 and, while Atalanta want to prolong his stay, they will consider a sale if a new contract isn't agreed in the next months.

Atalanta generally sell at least one top player per summer and Ademola Lookman is the first in the queue to be sold next.

United are in the market for a top-class central midfielder this summer, with the likes of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen set to leave.

Who is Ederson?

Ederson functions mostly as a box to box midfielder, but he can play as a defensive midfielder and as a more attacking central midfielder.

Importantly, he boasts intensity, fierce tackling and pressing, and superb stamina that sees him cover lots of ground and never stop running.

The Brazilian played a key role in Atalanta winning the Europa League last season and he produced a world class performance in the 3-0 thrashing of Bayer Leverkusen in the final.

Ederson joined Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022 and has gone on to make over 100 appearances, scoring 13 goals.
