Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed what is in store for Amad Diallo at the club.

The young attacker, who was signed for €21 million from Atalanta in 2020, has featured on nine occasions for the Man Utd first team but was farmed out on loan to Rangers in the second half of last season – a deal that proved a flop.

After struggling in Scotland, there were fears over Amad’s long-term ability to reach the heights expected of him, but a spectacular season with Sunderland, where he has scored 13 goals and created three more as he helped them into the Championship playoffs, has eased those worries.

And Ten Hag says that the Ivory Coast international certainly has a future at Manchester United – and the very purpose of the move was to allow him to flourish.

"Yes, of course, we loan such players to make development and progress to bring them back, that is the aim of the loan,” the former Ajax boss said.

Ten Hag praise for Fletcher

Ten Hag has particularly sung the praises of former Man Utd midfielder Darren Fletcher, who is now the technical director of the Old Trafford side, for the role that he performs with the players who are away from the club on a temporary basis.

“They are really strong, we mentor them, we follow them, we have communication over the season, especially Darren Fletcher, who invests a lot in such a process. The aim is to bring them back as a better player with experience,” Ten Hag said.

And Amad has certainly grown thanks to his time at Sunderland, where he has seen his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) rise from just €1m last summer to nearly €6m by the season’s end, underlining the impact that he has enjoyed.
