Manchester United fans hoping that Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani completes his takeover of the club have been given a boost by the news that he does not plan to pull out of the running if his Friday deadline passes without his bid being accepted.

The Qatari has made five separate bids for the Red Devils, the latest of which, worth no more than £6 billion, was tabled earlier this week. At this point, he imposed a Friday deadline for the Glazer brothers, the current owners of Man Utd, to accept it by.

Sheikh Jassim, like many supporters and even manager Erik ten Hag, have grown increasingly angry with how the takeover process has been drawn out since the Glazers first put the club up for sale in November. At that time, it was hoped a deal could be thrashed out by the spring of 2023.

The process, though, has stalled, causing frustration for Ten Hag in the early part of the summer transfer market by thwarting the club’s attempt to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount among others.

Sheikh Jassim will not pull out of Man Utd takeover race

The Guardian reports, though, that Sheikh Jassim will not pull out of the running if the Glazers have failed to respond to his bid by his Friday deadline.

The paper reports that the Qatari banker was trying to give the current owners an ultimatum that would have given him the edge over Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s bid. The Englishman’s INEOS group is the only other public bidder for the Red Devils.

Supporters have been split over the ownership issue, with some fearing that Man Utd will become a sports washing tool if Sheikh Jassim takes over, while others are worried about the prospect of the Ratcliffe bid allowing the Glazers an ongoing stake in the club after years of perceived mismanagement under the Americans.
