Arsenal HIJACKED as Chelsea open Eberechi Eze talks
Chelsea are attempting to hijack Arsenal's move for Eberechi Eze as they open talks for the Crystal Palace star.
That is according to Chelsea journalist Simon Phillips, who has reported on his Substack page that the Blues have entered the race for Eze.
Phillips says that Chelsea have opened talks with Eze's agents and are ready to take advantage of Arsenal's slow progress for the player.
The Blues are in the market for at least one - possibly two - top offensive players and have money to spend after making around €115 million from the Club World Cup. They will also recoup €60m from Arsenal for Noni Madueke.
Chelsea hijack Arsenal
Arsenal have been in talks to sign Eze but have been held up for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, they are completing a host of other signings this week - including Madueke, Viktor Gyokeres, Cristhian Mosquera, as well as the already-signed Christian Norgaard.
Given the costs of all these signings, Arsenal are not able to just simply pay Eze's release clause of €78m.
The Gunners have been negotiating a lower price, but Chelsea have the funds to pay more and in a more favourable way for Crystal Palace.
Eze, who famously scored the winner in the FA Cup final against Man City, has become one of the Premier League’s most admired players in recent years.
He has played for Palace for five years, scoring 39 goals in 166 games.
He is expected to leave Palace this summer in order to make the next step up.
Eze has been capped 11 times by England, scoring one goal. He played at Euro 2024.
Eze has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €62.7m, so his release fee is not seriously above his true worth.
