Juventus plot Liverpool triple raid as €15m deal is reignited
Juventus are targeting a remarkable three Liverpool players in a series of moves that could see the Turin giants utterly transformed.
Juve have made a disappointing start to the season, with Luciano Spaletti’s side seventh in the early running.
The ambition of the club is to progress up the standings, and they are looking to Liverpool to strengthen their squad, with Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Giovanni Leoni all emerging as targets for the Bianconeri.
Juventus want Alisson, Van Dijk and Leoni
Alisson was heavily linked with a move to Juventus in the summer as they sought a new first-choice goalkeeper. The Brazilian’s place in the Liverpool squad was far from secure and there were even claims that he had agreed a contract worth €15 million.
The keeper is now in his final year with the Reds and Juve are ready to revisit the possibility of snapping up the shot-stopper, according to Tuttosport.
“He's still among the top 10 goalkeepers in the world, and in recent months he had spoken directly with Lucio about joining Juventus,” the Turin-based paper claims.
“Then, Liverpool, lacking leadership, chose to secure him. The Brazilian is a goalkeeper worth considering on a free transfer: with a salary reduced from his current wage with the Reds, he could represent an opportunity.”
Van Dijk has also emerged as a target for Juventus, with the Netherlands star also in his final year in his Liverpool deal and expected to leave in the summer.
Gazzetta dello Sport claims that “an emissary close to Spaletti” was at the Netherlands’ draw with Germany last week to analyse his performance.
Finally, Gazzetta also reports that the Bianconeri are looking at an ambitious deal to snap up Leoni in a bid to increase the number of Italians in their squad.
The centre-back is just returning from serious injury but is a player highly thought of at Anfield.
“Juventus also made inquiries about a loan move in recent months. Liverpool have not opened the door and are expecting Leoni to play after the international break,” Gazzetta reports.
Nevertheless, Juventus are watching the 19-year-old on a weekly basis.
Juventus deals hinge on Champions League
Juventus hold significant ambition in the transfer market, and while a string of high-profile moves were completed in the summer, several of these were loans and the club wants to do more.
New CEO Giovanni Carnevali has admitted in quotes relayed by TuttoJuve:
“Our goal was to replace as many players as possible. Perhaps we could have done more, but improvements, even in management, come with knowledge. Over time, I'm understanding where we can improve; experience helps me speed up the process.”
Carnevali, however, suggested that Champions League football may be the minimum the club requires to fulfil their ambition.
He continued: “Our priority is to build a team that wins on the pitch, but it's clear we need to understand how to win on the pitch. It takes a lot of work, we need to lay a solid foundation and not rush things. You can't always change everything every year. You need to set a goal, choose a path that you can then follow, because only the path will lead to results. Of course, in today's business of football, the Champions League is crucial to making ends meet; otherwise, it's a bloodbath.”
So Juventus’ interest in the Liverpool stars may be ongoing, but their ability to sign these players may hinge on their performance this season.
