Eberechi Eze has an easy Arsenal transfer decision
Eberechi Eze’s career at Arsenal has stalled after less than 18 months and it could be time for the England star to begin exploring a possible exit.
The attacking midfielder is now 28 years old and while he has ticked off a career goal by lifting the Premier League trophy last season, it may be time for him to call it quits on the Gunners.
Eze has only started 22 English top flight matches since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium and with just six goals in 59 games against teams not named Tottenham Hotspur, it’s fair to say his €69.3 million move hasn’t really worked out.
Of course, the former Crystal Palace superstar remains one of the best creative players in the Premier League on his day, but it has rarely been his day in an Arsenal shirt. In a similar vein to how Jack Grealish’s flair dissipated upon switching Aston Villa for Manchester City, Eze no longer looks like a devastating attacker with bundles of confidence. Instead, he is simply a small part of Arsenal’s robotic-like machine.
It’s reported that Eze faces an uncertain long-term future at the Emirates Stadium, with “growing frustrations” over his role under Mikel Arteta. And it’s no surprise.
Eze is down the pecking order in midfield due to competition from Declan Rice, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, Bruno Guimaraes, and Martin Odegaard, while Christos Tzolis and perhaps even Noni Madueke are preferred on the left flank. All in all, he’s been reduced to a squad player with very little chance of emerging into a pivotal figure.
Eberechi Eze needs to leave Arsenal
Eze almost certainly harbours aspirations of playing for England at a home European Championship in 2028 and while he remains a regular under Thomas Tuchel, that is highly likely to change if he continues to play a bit-part role at Arsenal.
With Morgan Gibbs-White playing week-in, week-out for Nottingham Forest, at an incredibly high standard, Eze’s place in the England squad will be in severe doubt unless he leaves Arsenal.
In addition, having now won the Premier League title, 2027 could be a good time for Eze to move on. He thrived as the best player in Crystal Palace’s attack and he needs to join a club where that statement is once again true.
With most big-six clubs in England unlikely to have room for Eze, he must explore a possible move abroad, especially considering the success his former Crystal Palace team-mate Michael Olise has enjoyed since his arrival at Bayern Munich.
Eze won’t be short of offers from across Europe if he decides to leave Arsenal, and next year is the perfect time to explore his options ahead of Euro 2028.
