Manchester United have learned dream signing Lewis Hall produced an impressive performance as England beat Czechia in the Nations League on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old was handed a rare opportunity to shine for Three Lions after Nico O’Reilly missed the trip to Prague through injury.

And various media publications believe Hall passed his audition with flying colours as England kept a clean sheet in their 2-0 victory.

BBC Sport, The Telegraph and Daily Mirror all gave Hall a seven out of 10 in their respective player ratings following the win over Czechia.

In their player ratings, BBC Sport wrote: “The left-back combined well with Anthony Gordon and offered a good outlet for England. Hall was a threat going forward and should have scored in the second half.”

Meanwhile, The Telegraph’s Matt Law said of Hall: “Earned applause from (Harry) Kane for a cross that almost resulted in a first-half goal and should have scored after the break. Another cross ended up hitting the post.”

With Hall operating behind former Newcastle team-mate Anthony Gordon on the left, The Mirror’s John Cross wrote: “Nice link-up with Gordon down the left and looked more of a conventional left back than O’Reilly.”

Hall will hope to receive another chance to impress manager Thomas Tuchel when England travel to Croatia on Saturday.

They will then entertain Czechia at Wembley Stadium next Tuesday (6 October) before the international break comes to a close.

Hall received just his fifth cap for England against Czechia, with the defender having missed out on a place in Tuchel’s World Cup squad.

Man Utd keen to sign Hall at the end of the season

Man Utd meanwhile are understood to have made Hall their top target ahead of signing a new left-back at the end of the season.

The Red Devils reportedly tried to extract Hall from Newcastle United in the summer but their Premier League counterparts refused to sell.

Hall signed a new five-year contract with Newcastle earlier this month, though Man Utd are believed to be undeterred in their pursuit of the €58million-rated (£50m) star.

Man Utd return to action when they host fellow strugglers Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday, 10 October at Old Trafford.

Hall and Newcastle, on the other hand, travel to Coventry City in their next league fixture on Monday, 12 October at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
