Man Utd Transfer News Today: Baleba deal almost done - but two stars could leave
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Manchester United transfer news on 19 August, including fresh updates on Carlos Baleba and Marcus Rashford.
Man Utd closing in on signing Baleba from Brighton
Man Utd are close to agreeing a deal to sign Carlos Baleba as talks continue with Brighton and Hove Albion over a fee, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
Ornstein understands the Red Devils have made an offer worth around €70.1million (£60m) plus €5.8m (£5m) in add-ons, which is currently below Brighton’s valuation.
However, negotiations are ongoing as the two Premier League clubs work towards an agreement for Baleba to join the 20-time league champions.
United made strengthening their midfield a priority this summer - a task that will be completed if they sign Baleba, having already acquired Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
FootballTransfers has taken a look at how United could line up with Baleba, provided a deal is agreed with Brighton.
Rashford edging closer to Red Devils stay after return
Marcus Rashford is poised to stay at United after impressing club officials following his reintegration into the squad, according to the Daily Mail.
The England star has taken Red Devils youngsters JJ Gabriel and Shea Lacey under his wing since returning to training following his World Cup exploits.
And the United hierarchy are understood to be delighted with Rashford’s attitude, boosting the 28-year-old’s chances to staying at Old Trafford beyond the summer.
Speculation is rife regarding Rashford’s future having spent last season on loan with Barcelona, with the winger originally hoping to secure a permanent move to Spotify Camp Nou.
However, Hansi Flick’s side decided against triggering a €30m (£26m) option to turn the forward's loan move into a permanent transfer.
Carrick’s side could lose two youngsters to Arsenal
United are facing a battle to keep hold of two of their up-and-coming academy stars from Arsenal, according to The Telegraph.
Premier League champions Arsenal are reportedly eyeing moves for winger James Scanlon, 19, and defender Habeeb Ogunneye, 20.
The Telegraph claims the Gunners are confident of concluding deals for the pair before the transfer window closes next month.
United famously lured defender Ayden Heaven from Arsenal’s academy in February 2025, with the 19-year-old having gone on to make 24 appearances for Carrick’s side.
