Jack Grealish transfer advice: The club he should pick has emerged

Jack Grealish may have been welcomed back into the Manchester City fold by Enzo Maresca, but the winger’s future looks likely to lie away from the Etihad Stadium, with Everton and Sunderland among the teams chasing him.

Grealish has become something of a cult hero thanks to the instinctive nature of his play and his dribbling talents, yet this has not been enough to make him a regular at City following a €117.5 million move from Aston Villa in 2021.

With a matter of hours left in the transfer window, his career stands at a crossroads.

FootballTransfers has studied his case using the Career Advice tool of data analytics firm SciSports. This scores teams across a variety of metrics, including playing time, career development, style and formation, to come up with a Club Fit score. The higher the mark, the greater the probability a move will be a success.

It should be noted, however, that this does not take into account the financial circumstances of the purchasing clubs and is based purely on a sporting perspective.

So what does this tell us about what moves Grealish should consider at this late point in the transfer window?

Jack Grealish’s best options: From Inter Milan to Crystal Palace and West Ham

Grealish has a wide variety of possibilities that score well, Inter Milan stand out as his best option. The San Siro club hits a Club Fit score of 81, but while it would be a strong option in terms of development and playing time, style and formation suggest that it would not necessarily be a straightforward transition to Italy.

Based purely on a playing perspective, a transfer to Sevilla is recommended. While Grealish’s level would not necessarily improve in the south of Spain, the Andalucian club is considered to be a perfect fit in terms of style and formation. They score 75 overall.

Within the Premier League, Grealish would find the best balance at Crystal Palace (79) and Brentford (77), while if he were willing to drop down to the Championship, West Ham would be a strong fit, also scoring 77.

What about the possibility of staying at City? With a Club Fit score of 69, it’s not a disaster, but with just one star of playing time from a possible five, he would have to be prepared to have next to no opportunities. Given he turns 31 early in September, this is a path he probably does not wish to consider.

Everton a neat fit for Grealish

In terms of the clubs loitering with some interest, though, a return to Everton is clearly his best option. The Athletic confirms that the Toffees are working on a deal that could suit all parties.

David Moyes’ side also score a 75. Crucially, they would offer Grealish the type of playing time he needs to get back towards his best. With the Toffees on loan last season, he chalked up six assists and two goals in 20 Premier League appearances before his campaign was cruelly curtailed by a foot injury in January.

By contrast, Sunderland only score a 65 while Aston Villa, another of his former clubs, hit only a 61.

Given the prospect of a return to Everton, it’s a move that Grealish can scarcely afford to turn down at this point in his career, particularly given the success he had under Moyes during the first half of last term.
