Chelsea Transfer News Today: Man City make definitive Enzo Fernandez decision
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Chelsea transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Enzo Fernandez, Joao Pedro and Nicolas Jackson.
Man City make Enzo decision
Manchester City have no intention of paying Chelsea's €140 million asking price for Enzo Fernandez.
The Argentine has been flirting with a Stamford Bridge departure for a while now, especially after the club failed to qualify for the Champions League last season.
Man City emerged as the most likely destination as they are now coached by former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who enjoyed a positive working relationship with the Argentine, for the most part.
Chelsea set an unofficial deadline for the transfer of one of the team's captains last week and that deadline came and went.
TEAMtalk reports that Man City will not pay more for Fernandez than the €135m used to acquire Elliot Anderson earlier in the window.
New deal for Joao Pedro
Joao Pedro has reportedly agreed a new contract with Chelsea.
The Brazil international has committed his future to the Blues until 2032, with the agreement also containing an option for a further extension.
The new deal highlights Chelsea’s confidence in Pedro and his importance to the club’s long-term project. The striker has impressed since arriving from Brighton for €63.7 million (£55m) little more than a year ago.
He was already under contract with Chelsea until 2032, meaning the agreement does not automatically extend the length of his stay in West London. However, Fabrizio Romano reports that the forward will receive an improved salary under the new terms.
Romano also confirmed that all paperwork relating to the agreement has now been completed, sharing the update on X.
Jackson future decided soon
The Blues are stepping up their efforts to find a transfer solution for Nicolas Jackson, with the club determined to settle the striker’s future before the end of the week. Aston Villa have emerged as the leading candidates to sign the Senegal international.
Jackson has returned to Stamford Bridge following his loan spell at Bayern Munich, who decided against activating their option to make the move permanent. Although the 25-year-old may have been hoping to earn another opportunity in West London, Xabi Alonso appears to have already made his decision.
He has been informed that he is no longer part of Chelsea’s plans and has been encouraged to find a new club. The Blues are looking to offload a number of forwards before the transfer window closes after bringing in Danny Welbeck and Emmanuel Emegha this summer.
According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are now eager to conclude Jackson’s situation within the next few days, with the club reportedly pushing to finalise his future this week.
Villa have already completed the loan signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea in this window.
Hull won't sign Delap
Liam Delap has been strongly linked with a Stamford Bridge exit this summer after failing to impress since his move from Ipswich last summer.
Numerous clubs have been linked with the big striker, but one club he won't be going to is Hull after owner Acun Ilıcalı admitted to the Daily Mail:
"We love him and I hope he loves us but for this season, I didn’t even ask Chelsea.”
Delap spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Hull and scored eight goals in 31 Championship games.
Coventry pushing for Mudryk
Coventry are reportedly pushing hard to sign Mykhailo Mudryk on loan from Chelsea, reports TEAMtalk.
Manager Frank Lampard knows Mudryk from his time at Chelsea and reportedly sees him as a player who could add pace and creativity to his team's attack.
For Mudryk, a move to Coventry could provide regular Premier League football and a chance to rebuild his confidence after a difficult period.
The Ukrainian was cleared to play immediately on 31 July 2026 after the English FA, WADA and the player reached an agreement over his doping case after going 20 months with no competitive football.
