Rogers signs for Chelsea and five transfers that could be completed this week
With the World Cup now over, attention has turned to the 2026 summer transfer window, and clubs across European football are expected to ramp up negotiations ahead of the new campaign.
The likes of Elliot Anderson, Anthony Gordon and Marco Palestra have already secured high-profile moves so far this summer, but several other deals are likely to be finalised soon, with the biggest clubs in the world ready to flex their financial muscle.
Below, FootballTransfers runs through five transfers that are set to be completed before the end of this week.
Morgan Rogers to Chelsea
Morgan Rogers had looked destined to join Arsenal this summer, with Gunners boss Mikel Arteta desperate to sign him, but they were unwilling to match Aston Villa’s lofty asking price, allowing Chelsea to hijack the deal.
The Blues have reached a full agreement to sign Rogers for a British record transfer fee of €138 million and he has travelled to London to undergo his medical before becoming their sixth signing of the summer window.
Rogers will then enjoy a well-earned holiday before linking up with his new team-mates ahead of Xabi Alonso’s debut season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Christos Tzolis to Arsenal
Arsenal have agreed a €40m deal for Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis and he is expected to be unveiled as the club’s third summer signing this week.
The Greece international registered a whopping 51 goal contributions in 52 games across all competitions last season and he is set to replace Leandro Trossard in Arsenal’s squad, with the Belgian having been told to Besiktas.
Tzolis will follow in the footsteps of Piero Hincapie and Illan Meslier by joining Arsenal on a permanent deal this summer, and he is expected to compete with Gabriel Martinelli for a place in Arteta’s preferred starting XI next term.
Crysencio Summerville to Roma
AS Roma have identified West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville as their priority summer target and they are reportedly ready to lodge a third bid for the Netherlands star.
Summerville is open to joining the Serie A outfit this summer, following West Ham’s relegation, and negotiations are set to intensify this week after Roma’s second bid of €45m was turned down.
Talks will need to accelerate quickly if this deal is to be completed within the next seven days, although Roma are ready to bring him to Italy ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
Karim Adeyemi to Barcelona
After rejecting the opportunity to sign Marcus Rashford on a permanent deal, Barcelona finalised the signing of Anthony Gordon and they are now on the verge of adding Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi to their attacking roster too.
A deal worth an initial €22m has been fully agreed and Joan Laporta is expected to return to Camp Nou to announce the deal after attending Spain’s win over Argentina in the World Cup final on Sunday.
Reports in Spain suggest that Adeyemi will officially be unveiled at Camp Nou on Wednesday.
Trevoh Chalobah to Como
Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is reportedly close to joining Cesc Fabregas’ Como, although the clubs are yet to finalise a transfer fee agreement.
It’s understood that Chalobah is keen to join Como, with Chelsea eager to agree a sale, but there remains a gap in valuation, with Xabi Alonso’s side currently demanding a €35m fee.
However, a resolution is widely expected to be reached and Chalobah is set to move to Serie A shortly, with talks over a deal likely to ramp up following the end of the World Cup.
