Real Madrid receive green light to sign Rodri

Real Madrid have been given the all-clear to go ahead with their pursuit of Manchester City midfielder Rodri following a major decision from PSG.

The World Cup Golden Ball winner has become one of the protagonists of the summer transfer window in recent days, courtesy of his alleged desire to return to Spain and, specifically, the capital.

Despite his Atletico Madrid past, Rodri has his heart set on joining Real Madrid, which has prompted the LaLiga giants to reignite their pursuit of the 30-year-old. Earlier this summer, club supremo Florentino Perez had ruled out a move for the Man City star.

However, the president has now come around to the idea of signing Rodri, and discussions over a deal are in full swing. Man City, for their part, do not want to lose the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner and have been trying to get him to sign a new contract.

Earlier this year, it was claimed that the Cityzens would rather let him leave on a free transfer next year than sell him this summer, but the player's unambiguous desire may force them to soften their stance.

PSG make Rodri decision

Over the weekend, reports emerged that PSG had also entered the race for the Spain star, while Barcelona were monitoring the situation. The Ligue 1 champions initially did not plan to sign a midfielder this summer, but Rodri is seen as a genuine market opportunity.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed the Parisians' interest on Sunday, but it seems that, just as with the Yan Diomande saga, the Champions League holders are not prepared to let themselves be drawn into a bidding war.

In an update that evidently comes directly from the club, Sky Sports reports that PSG have "no plans to pursue a move" for Rodri. "Contrary to reports which emerged last week, PSG have not had any intention to tweak their central midfield this summer at all," it is added.

This leaves Real Madrid with a clear run at Rodri, although they will still need to reach an agreement with Man City. Reports in Spain suggest that the Premier League giants could demand as much as €80 million for the 30-year-old.

Mundo Deportivo adds that Real Madrid were never worried about PSG. In fact, club sources believe that the links with the French outfit were a ploy to artificially inflate Rodri's price.

It was, they allege, revenge for what transpired with Diomande, with PSG having been beaten to his signature by Real Madrid after refusing to meet the "inflated" financial demands of the player and RB Leipzig.

The rivalry between PSG and Real Madrid, which began with the Kylian Mbappe saga at the start of the decade, appears to have been fully rekindled.
