Fabrizio Romano confirms wantaway Chelsea star is set to leave

Filip Jorgensen has left Chelsea’s pre-season training camp ahead of completing a move to Strasbourg, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano claims an agreement is “almost done” between all parties, though it is unknown whether Jorgensen will leave on loan or on a permanent basis.

BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella has also confirmed the goalkeeper has left Australia and is travelling back to England to sort out his future.

The same publication claims Jorgensen also has interest from newly-promoted Coventry City, who are managed by Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.

The news comes after BBC Sport reported earlier in July that Jorgensen has asked to leave Chelsea in search of regular first-team football.

Should Jorgensen complete a move away, he will join Marc Cucurella, Andrey Santos, Tyrique George and Alejandro Garnacho in leaving Chelsea ahead of Xabi Alonso’s first season in charge.

Denmark international Jorgensen joined Chelsea from Villarreal for €23m (£20m) in July 2024, signing a seven-year contract in west London.

However, the 24-year-old has been unable to usurp Robert Sanchez as Chelsea’s No. 1, making just 36 appearances over the last two seasons.

Aside from Sanchez, Chelsea also have highly-rated Belgium Under-21 international Mike Penders in their goalkeeping ranks.

Penders spent last season on loan with Strasbourg, who are owned under the same BlueCo umbrella as Chelsea.

He made 50 appearances for the French outfit, who finished eighth in Ligue 1 and reached the UEFA Conference League semi-finals.

Widespread reports understand the 20-year-old is set to compete with Sanchez for a starting berth in Alonso’s side next season.

Penders, who joined Chelsea from Belgian Pro League side Genk in August 2025, was named in Belgium’s 26-man squad for this summer's World Cup.

He was an unused substitute as Rudi Garcia’s side were beaten by eventual champions Spain in the quarter-finals.

Chelsea boss Alonso keen to offload players this summer

Speaking before Chelsea’s pre-season clash with Western Sydney Wanderers on Tuesday, Alonso confirmed his desire to trim down his squad.

He told reporters: ”We need to know that probably there will still be some movements. We need to be flexible and quick to act. The main thing is that we have a clear idea, a clear plan that we have built. Probably it will change until the last day of the market being open.”

And when asked how many players he would like in his Chelsea squad, the Spaniard added: “Not too long, not too short, what is the number? I can't give you that number.

“But for sure, we need to have options because you know that we could be unlucky with injuries so we need to prepare for that.

“We can have different circumstances. We need to manage minutes. We have two cups as well, so we need to fight for them as hard as in the Premier League.

“Once we get the right balance in terms of qualities, personalities, maturity moments, hopefully we are looking at that when we start the first Premier League game in August.”
