The Telegraph understands Forest are keen to sign Delap, who they targeted last summer before the 23-year-old joined Chelsea for €35million (£30m).

BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella understands the Blues are looking to sell two strikers this summer, with Delap a possibility.

The news comes after the Daily Mail’s Kieran Gill reported on Monday that Chelsea are pushing to sign Brighton and Hove Albion’s Danny Welbeck.

While both clubs have yet to agree a fee, Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea are close to agreeing personal terms with the 35-year-old striker.

In a new YouTube video, transfer reporter Romano said: “Chelsea are closing in on [an] agreement with the player (Welbeck), in terms of personal terms.

“From the same agency [as Welbeck] Chelsea already signed a talented boy, [Harrison] Bettoni, who joined the club a few weeks ago.

“And Chelsea are now proceeding [with] this opportunity to get Danny Welbeck. They need to negotiate and agree [a fee] with Brighton because the player is under contract and for Brighton [he] is obviously an important player.

“But the conversation is under way.”

Delap endured a difficult debut season at Chelsea

Should Chelsea reach an agreement with Brighton to sign Welbeck, speculation regarding Delap’s future will likely increase.

The forward struggled for form and fitness last season, scoring just one Premier League goal in 28 appearances.

Delap moved to Stamford Bridge off the back of scoring an impressive 12 league goals in 37 appearances for Ipswich Town in 2024-25.

Before choosing to join Chelsea, various sources understand Delap received offers from Premier League trio Forest, Everton and Newcastle United.

Forest are looking to back new manager Oliver Glasner in the transfer market, with The Mail confirming Delap is among their targets.

Glasner was named Forest head coach on 6 July, securing an immediate return to management after leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season.

The 51-year-old is regarded as Palace’s greatest-ever manager after winning the FA Cup, UEFA Conference League and Community Shield during his time at Selhurst Park.
