Arsenal told Man Utd have caused them a problem in €152m Morgan Rogers chase
Aston Villa’s bargaining position for Arsenal target Morgan Rogers will be strengthened once Youri Tielemans completes his expected move to Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail.
BBC Sport reported in June that Arsenal are keen to sign a new forward ahead of the 2026-27 season, with Villa and England star Rogers sitting at the top of their wishlist.
The 23-year-old has developed a reputation as one of the Premier League’s best attackers, having recorded 14 goals and 11 assists in all competitions for Europa League champions Villa last season.
However, The Telegraph understands it would take a British record fee of €152million (£130m) to prize Rogers away from Villa - an eye-watering sum which may be too high for Arsenal.
And now the Mail claims Villa will be able to hold out for that figure as they prepare to generate funds from Tielemans’ imminent departure to Man Utd, as well as Lucas Digne’s expected switch to Paris Saint-Germain.
Villa to generate much-needed funds from Tielemans & Digne exits
The Athletic reported on Monday that United are set to trigger a €41m (£35m) release clause in Tielemans’ contract, while the Mail claims PSG are expected to active a similar, undisclosed option in Digne’s terms with Villa.
An earlier report from the Mail claimed Villa needed to make sales before signing new players under UEFA’s financial rules. Unai Emery’s side will compete in next season’s Champions League after finishing in the top four.
The Athletic reported last Sunday that Villa are finalising a move for Johan Manzambi from Bundesliga side SC Freiburg, however, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claiming the deal is in excess of €60m (£51.1m).
Newcastle United also agreed a fee with Freiburg for Manzambi, according to the same publication, but the highly-rated 20-year-old prefers a move to Villa Park.
Manzambi sparkled for Switzerland at this summer’s World Cup, scoring three goals and registering two assists for Murat Yakin’s side, who were beaten 3-1 after extra time by Argentina in the quarter-finals.
Villa watched Manzambi up close when they beat Freiburg 3-0 in the Europa League final in May.
