Bayern make Rashford contact - but no bid made

Bayern Munich contacted Manchester United over the possibility of signing Marcus Rashford before shifting their efforts towards landing PSV Eindhoven winger Ismael Saibari instead, according to Romano.

Rashford’s future remains up in the air after Barcelona cooled their interest in activating a €30million (£26m) clause to sign the England star permanently, according to The Athletic, having spent last season on loan with the La Liga champions.

“[I have received] many questions on what’s happening with Rashford, some of you asking me if Bayern is a possibility,” Romano said in his latest YouTube video.

“My understanding is that there were some calls from Bayern in the past two to three weeks to understand the situation of Marcus Rashford, asking in general if Rashford could be an option.

“But at the moment Bayern are more oriented on a different kind of player, for example Saibari, Saibari obviously in terms of technical skills is different from Rashford, but in terms of salary, in terms of [the] cost of the deal, [it] is way less compared to what Bayern [would] spend in order to sign Marcus Rashford.

“And so that’s why the situation with Rashford at Bayern is appreciation, yes, people at Bayern are appreciating Rashford but at the moment [there is] no negotiations, no bid and the focus at Bayern is on different players.”

Amorim on two-man shortlist for AC Milan job

Ruben Amorim is open to the possibility of becoming AC Milan manager this summer, with the Portuguese on a two-man shortlist alongside Al-Ahli head coach Matthias Jaissle, according to Romano.

Amorim has been out of work since being sacked by United in January following a difficult 14 months in charge.

“Ruben Amorim is ready to return,” Romano continued. “He’s [in a] 50/50 race with Matthias Jaissle, the coach of Al-Ahli, to become the new manager at AC Milan.

“[Massimiliano] Allegri left, [he] will become the new manager of Napoli, and now Ruben Amorim [has] opened doors to the possibility of becoming [the] new AC Milan manager.

“Talks [are] underway, and so Amorim is a strong candidate, [he is] ready to say yes if Milan want to proceed with him. The other candidate, Matthias Jaissle, he is also very appreciated but under contract.

“At Al-Ahli they would ask for compensation [for Jaissle], and so financially he is more complicated [than Amorim].”

Goretzka could join Lewandowski in MLS

Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire are pushing to sign Robert Lewandowski and Leon Goretzka on free transfers this summer, according to Romano.

Lewandowski is available after announcing he will leave Barcelona when his contract expires on 30 June, while his former Bayern team-mate Goretzka is set to leave the Bundesliga giants when his terms run their course at the end of the month.

“They (Chicago Fire) are going all-in on Robert Lewandowski, he is in the US this weekend to negotiate with Chicago Fire, to visit the club, to try to understand what is the situation,” said Romano.

“And so Chicago Fire are really trying to tempt Robert Lewandowski with an important financial proposal, [with] a two or three-year contract.

“Also, rumours on Leon Goretzka coming from the US. It’s true that they are trying to bring Leon Goretzka to Chicago Fire, it’s a possibility, they are trying.

“But the priority, to what I understand of the player (Goretzka), is to continue in Europe. He wants to be part of a European project, he is giving priority to European clubs.”

Tottenham reject two bids for Vuskovic

Tottenham Hotspur have turned down a second offer from Brighton and Hove Albion for the highly-rated defender Luka Vuskovic, according to Romano.

The Athletic reported on Friday that Spurs had rejected a bid from Brighton for Vuskovic, but Romano claims that was actually the second proposal Roberto De Zerbi's side have rebuffed from their Premier League counterparts.

“Tottenham [have] rejected two bids from Brighton for Luka Vuskovic,” Romano said. “Tottenham already said no to 35million euros (£30m). My understanding is that the player would consider this opportunity [if a deal could be agreed].

“Luka Vuskovic has several opportunities, several proposals, not only from Brighton but the player could be option to this option, to join Brighton, eventually, if Tottenham decide to proceed [with a deal].

“But my understanding, again, is that, at the moment, there is no agreement club-to-club. Tottenham have already rejected two proposals for Vuskovic, again the last one was 35million euros and now we have to see if they can be able to convince the club (Spurs) and to find an agreement.”
