Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez continues to be heavily linked with Real Madrid, and Franco Mastantuono has already given his seal of approval to the transfer.

Blues head coach Liam Rosenior announced earlier on Friday that Fernandez would be suspended for the club's upcoming games against Port Vale in the FA Cup and Manchester City in the Premier League after he "crossed the line" while away on international duty.

The Argentina international, who had already cast doubt on his Chelsea future after they were eliminated from the Champions League by PSG, openly flirted with a move to Real Madrid during his time with the national team.

Fernandez stated that he would love to live in the Spanish capital because it is "similar to Buenos Aires," while he also spoke glowingly of his previous encounter with Los Blancos and club legends Toni Kroos and Luka Modric at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Naturally, Fernandez's comments didn't go down well at Chelsea, and he has now been made to pay for his actions. However, his brief suspension will likely only reinforce his belief that it is time for a change this summer.

Mastantuono endorses Fernandez move

The Argentine contingent at Real Madrid, which currently only consists of Franco Mastantuono, could grow considerably after this season, with Nico Paz expected to be re-signed from Como, in addition to a possible move for Fernandez.

Mastantuono would certainly welcome having more compatriots alongside him in the Spanish capital, especially Fernandez. The 18-year-old was swarmed by journalists at Ezeiza Airport on his way back to Madrid and quizzed about the Chelsea star.

When bluntly asked whether he would like to have the 25-year-old as a teammate at Real Madrid, the youngster responded: "Of course I would." However, when Fernandez's comments were broached, Mastantuono insisted that he "doesn't know anything."

While Fernandez's desire to make the move to Spain seems evident, this alone won't be enough to push through a transfer. Chelsea ultimately hold all the cards as the Argentine is still tied to the club until 2032.

Chelsea don't want to sell him, but they no longer consider him untouchable following his comments. The Blues insist that they will not make a book loss on their €121 million investment.

Some reporters in Spain appear quite pessimistic about Real Madrid's chance of being able to afford Fernandez. Journalist Miguel Serrano claims that a deal currently seems impossible because of Chelsea's high asking price.

"The problem is that Real Madrid cannot complete the signing because Chelsea won’t sell him for less than €150m-€160m," he said on Radio MARCA.
