Real Madrid and Liverpool discuss 'most unexpected swap deal in years'
Liverpool and Real Madrid could swap Alexis Mac Allister and Eduardo Camavinga this summer, according to a report.
The Reds are likely to have another massive summer transfer window after what has so far been a hugely disappointing season. Arne Slot's team looks unbalanced and dysfunctional and requires more investment.
The midfield is one area that is expected to be strengthened this summer. Ryan Gravenberch has just signed a long-term contract extension, but Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo could be on the way out. Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister are also eyed by suitors.
The latter two have both been linked with a potential move to Real Madrid in recent weeks. Mac Allister, in particular, has become the subject of speculation after his admission that there are currently no talks over a new contract with the Reds.
Failure to qualify for next season's Champions League could have significant ramifications for Slot's future and the team as a whole. However, should Mac Allister decide to pursue a different challenge, Liverpool may not come away empty-handed.
Liverpool to swap Mac Allister?
At least that is according to Fichajes, which claims that the Anfield club and Real Madrid could pull off a mutually beneficial deal by swapping Mac Allister for Eduardo Camavinga.
The Frenchman, just like teammate and compatriot Aurelien Tchouameni, is a long-standing target for Liverpool. Camavinga has been a hit-and-miss signing for Los Blancos, so they may be willing to offload him this summer.
The speculative report claims that this "unexpected" move would "shake up the market," but admits that high-profile swap deals like this are uncommon in modern football.
Real Madrid are said to value Mac Allister's international and big-game experience, while Liverpool believe in Camavinga's potential. At 23, the versatile midfielder still has "enormous room for growth."
Whether anything will come of this is doubtful, but more speculation over the future of Mac Allister is inevitable. If Liverpool's slump continues, the World Cup winner may be tempted to seek a fresh challenge elsewhere.
