Man Utd Transfer News Today: United eye 11-assist defender as rivals net 'done deal' for top target
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Manchester United transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Karim Adeyemi and Elliot Anderson.
Mainoo contract facing ‘issues’
There are “lingering issues” that Man Utd still need to address if they are to tie Mainoo down on an extended deal, the Daily Mail reports.
The 20-year-old continues to be paid a significantly lower salary than many of his colleagues, and there is a requirement for United to give him a substantial pay rise.
It’s a situation that the Red Devils’ Premier League rivals are keeping an eye on, aware that there could still be the potential to sell Mainoo in the summer if the situation is not swiftly resolved.
Chelsea set to beat United to Adeyemi transfer
The Germany international has been widely tipped to leave the Signal Iduna Park ahead of the 2026-27 season and rumours suggest he is holding out for a move to the Premier League.
German publication BILD claim that a contract extension has been offered to the 24-year-old, but he is yet to agree fresh terms with Niko Kovac’s side and his new agent Jorge Mendes reportedly wants a release clause to be included in the deal in order to allow his client to leave at any time.
Dortmund are yet to accept such demands and Adeyemi is therefore understood to be edging closer to the exit door ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
Arsenal and Liverpool have both been touted as potential destinations for the 24-year-old, although it is Chelsea and Man Utd who currently lead the race to sign him, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
It’s claimed that Man Utd view the possibility of signing Adeyemi as a “market opportunity” as they look to add another option to their current forward line.
Man Utd set to miss out on Anderson after ‘done deal’
Manchester United have earmarked the 23-year-old as their priority transfer target for 2026 and rumours have suggested that Michael Carrick’s side are ready to challenge for Anderson’s signature following confirmation that Casemiro will depart on a Bosman deal in July.
However, the Red Devils are set to be left empty-handed as Anderson is on the verge of finalising an agreement with Man City.
That is according to transfer reporter Graeme Bailey, who told TEAMtalk: “I have to be honest, for several weeks now, from numerous sources, I am told that Anderson to City is a done deal.
“City have been on Anderson for months, since last year. I am told Hugo Viana picked him out last summer as one he wanted. In football circles, the belief is that Anderson is only going to one place and that is City.
“Whilst City and Forest are not confirming anything, I think that whilst nothing is signed, Anderson knows where he will be playing next season and that will be the Etihad.”
Man Utd declare interest in 11-assist Dortmund defender
Manchester United are interested in signing Dortmund’s Julian Ryerson as one of their defensive transfer targets this summer.
United are reportedly looking for an attacking right back and Ryserson’s 11 assists in 21 games has attracted the club’s attention.
Dortmund could be forced to cash in on Ryerson if they fail to qualify for the Champions League, with BILD suggesting an offer of €30m would force the German side to ‘entertain’ the idea of his departure.
Newcastle and Barcelona are also linked with the 28-year-old after a ‘decision was made’ by Dortmund higher ups over a potential deal.
Man Utd and Liverpool battle for Thuram transfer
Liverpool and Man Utd are among the sides monitoring the situation around Khepheren Thuram after his impressive performances for Juventus this season.
According to CaughtOffside, a package worth €45m plus bonuses could be explored for the Frenchman.
United allegedly view Thuram as a potential building block for the next phase of their midfield evolution, although Liverpool could push harder for the 24-year-old.
Much will depend on Juventus’ asking price as well as where they may finish in the Serie A table this season.
