Chelsea's Rosenior sack stance revealed
Liam Rosenior’s future at Chelsea has come into question after recent unconvincing results, with speculation emerging this week that the board are already losing patience with their new manager.
Rosenior only replaced Enzo Maresca in January but the new Blues boss has quickly come under pressure after a humiliating exit to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, as well as winning just one of his last five Premier League matches in charge.
Chelsea are in danger of missing out on a Champions League place for next season, which could see the likes of Enzo Fernandez push for an exit, and there had been reports that Rosenior is already set to be replaced in the summer.
However, the Daily Mail report that Rosenior maintains a ‘good relationship’ with Chelsea’s board, while agents of the players believe the squad is behind their manager and supportive of him.
Although, should Chelsea miss out on the Champions League, the situation could change but, in the meantime, sources have suggested that no notice should be taken of any speculation surrounding Rosenior’s future.
Having signed a contract until 2032 just two months ago, Chelsea are keen to back Rosenior and could even retain him if they do miss out on the Champions League, although no decision will be made until the end of the season.
Rosenior calm despite 'difficult' period as Chelsea manager
Chelsea sit sixth in the Premier League and one point behind fifth place Liverpool, with the club still involved in the FA Cup and hoping to break into the top five to secure Champions League football for next season.
Rosenior was defiant ahead during the press conference ahead of this weekend’s game against Everton and insisted that he had 'learned' a lot after a 'difficult period' in charge.
“When you lose games, there's always damage attached to it. But there's also me learning about the team and learning about myself and my staff and the club. And I learned a lot this week,” Rosenior said.
“I think every manager goes through moments like this, goes through difficult weeks. I've had challenging periods before. Strasbourg, we've lost games. I've lost games in many jobs, like all managers have done. But I've always found a way to come through that.
"And now we're at that point again where I think as a group, we need to find a way to fight at Everton and come through a difficult period.”
