Chelsea submit €70m offer for Garnacho replacement
Chelsea have lodged an opening offer worth a total of €70 million for Real Madrid superstar Rodrygo, as per a bombshell report in Spain.
The Brazil international has been linked with a Bernabeu exit for several months and rumours suggest that he may depart Los Blancos this summer amid significant interest in his signature.
Arsenal and Liverpool have once again been touted as potential destinations for Rodrygo, although it is Chelsea who have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of the 25-year-old.
Liam Rosenior’s side have already finalised a deal for Sporting CP starlet Geovany Quenda to join the club in July, but they remain eager to sign another new winger following the struggles of Alejandro Garnacho since his arrival from Manchester United last year.
The Argentina forward has only scored one goal in 17 Premier League appearances for Chelsea and he hasn’t played more than 60 minutes in a single English top flight fixture since the Blues’ 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on 27 December.
Garnacho was an unused substitute against both Leeds United and Burnley in late February, despite Jamie Gittens’ absence through a hamstring injury, and reports have speculated that Chelsea will look to sell him this summer.
A number of players have been touted as potential replacements for Garnacho, including Kenan Yildiz, Morgan Rogers and Nico Williams, but Rodrygo now appears to have emerged as a strong candidate for the role.
Will Rodrygo join Chelsea?
Rodrygo has registered just nine goal contributions in 26 matches across all competitions for Real Madrid so far this season, but Los Blancos have now received a €70m bid from Chelsea, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.
It’s claimed that an initial fee worth €60m has been proposed by the Blues, with an additional €10m in potential bonus payments.
Real Madrid are yet to respond to the offer, although the club’s management are reportedly set to analyse the proposal over the coming weeks as they contemplate a possible sale.
Fichajes state that Chelsea have informed Rodrygo that he will become a key attacking player at Stamford Bridge and they have reportedly promised him significant game time. However, a deal hasn’t been finalised and Rodrygo is yet to discuss personal terms with the west London giants.
As a result, an agreement is unlikely to occur until after the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
