AC Milan are interested in signing Chelsea outcast Nicolas Jackson after his Bayern loan, and he may even be a "bargain" this summer.

The Senegal striker is enduring a difficult season in Germany after joining Bayern from Chelsea last summer. Despite paying one of the largest loan fees in football history for Jackson, the Bundesliga giants are only rarely using him.

The 24-year-old has failed to dislodge Harry Kane from his starting spot and is primarily a bench-warmer in Munich. As a result, Bayern will not make his loan permanent after this season.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has confirmed as much. "Nico Jackson will not stay at Bayern in the summer transfer window," he said. "Bayern paid more than €15 million as a loan fee, but the player is expected to return to Chelsea.

"Chelsea and the player’s camp will assess opportunities on the market. In Italy, Jackson is appreciated, and there will also be opportunities in England and Spain. At the moment, I am not aware of Chelsea having a clear plan for him to return and stay."

Chelsea offered Milan escape route

As Romano said, Jackson is "appreciated" in Italy. Among the clubs interested in the Chelsea outcast are AC Milan, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. They are once again desperately looking for a striker.

The No.9 position has given the Rossoneri headaches for years, and neither Santiago Gimenez nor Chelsea flop Christopher Nkunku has been a satisfactory solution for the Serie A giants.

Heading into the summer, Milan are once more drawing up a striker shortlist that contains prominent names. In addition to Jackson, Borussia Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy and Al-Qadsiah star Mateo Retegui are regarded as priorities, while out-of-favour Al-Hilal striker Darwin Nunez could also become an option.

Jackson is attractive for two reasons. For one, Milan director Igli Tare already held talks with Chelsea and the player's camp last summer. Furthermore, it is clear that Chelsea want to get rid of him.

The report, therefore, posits that the two clubs could reach common ground on an initial loan with a purchase obligation. "It could become a Champions League bargain," the Italian publication concludes.
