Inter youngster Francesco Pio Esposito passed his Arsenal transfer audition "with flying colours," according to Italian media.

The 20-year-old has emerged as one of the standout prospects in Italian football over the past 12 months. Pio Esposito starred on loan at Spezia in Serie B last term, and he has become a crucial part of Inter's senior side this season.

Due to the calibre of forwards the Nerrazurri have, the young forward has mostly been an impact substitute so far, but he has impressed so much that he already has five caps - and three goals - for Italy to his name.

Pio Esposito has scored seven goals for Inter this season, two of which have come in the past two games. He came off the bench to score against Juventus at the weekend and netted again in his club's humiliating 3-1 loss to Bodo/Glimt as a starter.

According to TuttoSport, an Arsenal scout was in attendance to watch Pio Esposito in Inter's 3-2 victory over the Bianconeri, which is becoming an increasingly regular occurrence.

Arsenal interest is growing

FootballTransfers exclusively revealed last week that the Gunners have been left hugely impressed by Pio Esposito's development, and that they have begun mulling over a summer move.

The Italian press confirms our reporting and states that Arsenal director Andrea Berta has been keeping tabs on the 20-year-old for years. Against Juventus, Pio Esposito passed his Gunners test "with flying colours," Tuttomercatoweb writes.

However, Inter will not make life easy for the North London giants, nor any other suitors. The Serie A leaders view Pio Esposito as a crucial part of the club's long-term future.

In fact, club chiefs are already working on a new contract that would see him receive a significant pay increase to reflect his impact this term. Arsenal, though, will keep monitoring the youngster. Their interest is growing with each passing game.
