Manchester United have been told that a bid of €60 million will not be enough to sign RB Leipzig wonderkid Yan Diomande.

The Red Devils are scouring the market for attacking reinforcements after missing out on Bournemouth superstar Antoine Semenyo to rivals Man City. Man Utd were ready to pay his €74m release clause, but he opted to choose the Etihad club due to his desire to win trophies.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Man Utd are the latest club to take a keen interest in 19-year-old Leipzig starlet Diomande, who has been one of the breakout stars of this current Bundesliga season.

The likes of Arsenal and Chelsea had previously been linked, but Sky Sports revealed that it is now Man Utd who are concretely interested in the Ivorian, even going so far as to suggest that they could make a January move to beat his other suitors to the punch.

Additionally, Sky downplayed claims from their German colleagues that Diomande had been given a €100m price tag, instead stating that he could be available for as little as €60m-€70m.

€60m for Diomande deemed 'laughable'

However, TEAMtalk now claims that a source close to the Red Bull organisation has dismissed suggestions that the tricky winger could be had for €60m, describing this assertion as "frankly laughable."

“There is no price on Diomande, let’s make that clear,” the source is quoted as saying. “However, any suggestions that he could be available for around €60m is frankly laughable.

"Yan is a special talent, everyone knows this - arguably the best young talent in the world right now. You can only imagine the value for such a player.”

The report adds that Leipzig are considering offering Diomande a new contract in a bid to fend off the interest in him. This tallies with the recent comments of managing director Oliver Mintzlaff, who believes that Leipzig should do more to retain their players.

“We want to ensure that we don’t just develop players for one year. But that we can also retain top talents for longer,” he said.

“We still see ourselves as a top club in the Bundesliga. And for young players like [Assan] Ouedraogo or Diomande, it would be good to take the next steps with us and consistently perform at a high level."

Nevertheless, Mintzlaff accepts that sales are still necessary. “However, it will remain the case in the future that we will occasionally have to let players go. We still need to generate transfer fees and have players in our squad who are attractive to the absolute top clubs.

“Generally speaking, you should never rule anything out in football. If there’s an exorbitant offer far above market value, and we are convinced that it’s a unique opportunity for a significant profit, then we have to be honest with ourselves, discuss it, and keep a cool head.”
