Two Uruguay teammates are trying to convince Manuel Ugarte to leave Manchester United for Galatasaray this month, according to Turkish media.

The 24-year-old has proved to be a disappointing signing for the Red Devils since joining from PSG in a €50 million deal in 2024. Ugarte was supposed to be the solution to Man Utd's holding midfield problem, but he has not lived up to the hype.

Heading into 2026, it was increasingly reported that the Uruguay international could be on the move this year, although it was believed that a transfer would only happen in the summer.

Serie A clubs already explored a move for Ugarte in the summer of 2025, and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano predicted that Italian suitors would return for him in 2026.

Now, it is claimed that Ugarte could already depart Man Utd this month as Ajax and Galatasaray have taken a liking to the tenacious midfielder. The latter, in particular, appear desperate to complete a deal.

Galatasaray pushing for Ugarte

According to Turkish journalist Yakup Cinar, talks between Man Utd and Galatasaray are currently centred around a loan move with an option to make it permanent in the summer. He is "100 per cent" convinced that Ugarte will leave Man Utd.

Cinar adds that Galatasaray's efforts are being aided by two of the 24-year-old's compatriots. He claims that Galatasaray legend Fernando Muslera and current midfielder Lucas Torreira are trying to convince Ugarte to make the move.

"Galatasaray continue their contacts regarding Manuel Ugarte," Cinar explained. "Names such as Muslera and Torreira are in talks with the player about Galatasaray. Galatasaray want to loan him with a purchase option. The player will leave Manchester United 100 per cent."

Despite Cinar's confidence, it remains to be seen if Ugarte will indeed depart Man Utd this month. Given the uncertainty surrounding the coaching position, with Michael Carrick now the favourite to take over in the interim, Ugarte could be offered a new lease on life.

In any case, Man Utd are known to be reluctant to sanction major outgoings this month. Any exit would necessitate the signing of an adequate replacement.
