Man Utd make contact for Barcelona star as January move no longer ruled out
Manchester United are among the clubs keen on Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado, who is considering his future in Catalunya, according to Spanish media.
The 22-year-old fielded widespread interest, including from various Premier League clubs, in the summer, but he opted to stay at Barcelona because Hansi Flick promised him a key role in his side.
The German initially kept his promise. Casado was a regular in the early stages of the campaign, making six starts in LaLiga and two in the Champions League.
However, Casado is no longer as important as he previously was. The only minutes he has clocked so far in 2026 came in the Copa del Rey against second-tier Racing Santander.
The two-time Spain international has been an unused substitute in Barcelona's last two LaLiga outings, and he did not get a minute of action in the Supercopa. He was also left on the bench for the full 90 minutes in the Blaugrana's final two Champions League games of 2025.
Man Utd make Casado enquiry
According to Mundo Deportivo, it is no longer guaranteed that Casado will stay at Barcelona beyond this season. In fact, he could already be on the move this month.
It is claimed that Man Utd are among the clubs to have enquired about the 22-year-old as they continue their search for midfield reinforcements. The Red Devils have formally registered their interest, the report states.
Wolves are also keeping an eye on the situation, and they have an obvious connection with his agent Jorge Mendes, but it seems doubtful that Casado would be willing to join a team that is all but guaranteed to get relegated.
The most concrete option appears to be Atletico Madrid at present. The Rojiblancos are determined to sign a midfielder after selling Conor Gallagher, and Casado is a priority target, alongside Wolves star Joao Gomes.
Diego Simeone already wanted the Barcelona star in the summer, and this persistence has caused the player to change his stance. Casado initially planned to head abroad if he were to leave Catalunya, but it is asserted that he has now opened the door to a potential switch to Atleti.
