Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: Barca agree four deals, Robertson talks, Chelsea keeper update
Interest across Europe continues to shape the final stretch of the transfer window, with several key situations developing across the Premier League, Serie A and La Liga.
Mike Maignan contract agreement
Chelsea have received a blow on the goalkeeping front with the news that Mike Maignan has agreed a new deal with AC Milan.
“At AC Milan, the big news is that Mike Maignan is set to sign a new contract and the deal is done,” Romano told his YouTube channel.
“All parties are in agreement. Club side, player side, agent side, everything is completed. It is a five-year deal until June 2031.
“Maignan will earn €5 million net per season, with €2m euros in add-ons, reaching a total package of €7m. Forget about Chelsea and forget about all the other links.
“Mike Maignan is staying at Milan and will put pen to paper very soon. This is huge news for Milan because he was previously set to be out of contract in June 2026.
“Chelsea really wanted Maignan in summer 2025 and made an attempt in early June, but Milan rejected a €15m proposal and decided to take the risk. They wanted to keep the player and try to extend his contract, and now they have succeeded.
“Two other top European clubs were also tracking Maignan, but Chelsea never returned to the table after that first week of June.”
Emiliano Martinez and Guglielmo Vicario are Inter targets
Goalkeeper movement is expected in the summer rather than January, with Inter monitoring several profiles.
“On Emiliano Martinez, there are many rumours about Inter but at the moment there is nothing imminent,” Romano explained.
“In January the situation is very quiet. In the summer, it could become a topic to watch, but I am not aware of any agreement or advanced talks with Inter right now.
“One goalkeeper to follow for Inter is Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham. This is a summer topic, not for January.
“Inter were close to signing Vicario before he joined Tottenham, but they were waiting to sell Andre Onana to Manchester United and Tottenham moved first. Vicario remains on Inter’s shortlist.
Tottenham latest: Andy Robertson talks with Liverpool
Tottenham are actively working on a major Premier League move as negotiations continue behind the scenes.
“Tottenham are working this week and in the next days to close a deal for Andy Robertson,” Romano revealed.
“An official bid has already been presented to Liverpool and discussions are ongoing between the two clubs.
“The player is open to the move and ready to make the switch. The fact that Robertson featured on the pitch does not change anything.
“Now it is up to Tottenham and Liverpool to find a financial agreement.
“If Robertson leaves, my understanding is that Liverpool are not planning to sign a new left-back immediately because they invested in Jorrel Hato last summer.
“The idea would be to bring back Kostas Tsimikas from Roma. There is no recall clause, but club-to-club contacts between Roma and Liverpool are already taking place and Roma are prepared to give the green light.”
Manchester United monitor midfield opportunities
Manchester United remain attentive to market opportunities but are not rushing decisions.
“Manchester United have again been offered the chance to sign a midfielder, but at the moment they are still not proceeding,” Romano added.
“They are exploring opportunities in case something interesting appears in the final week of the window. It is not guaranteed, but it is something the club will assess based on market conditions.
“Otherwise, United could stay with the current squad until the summer.”
Barcelona complete four deals
Barcelona continue to focus heavily on talent recruitment alongside contract extensions.
“At Barcelona, Deco and head of scouting Joan Soler are doing an important job on young talents,” Romano explained.
“One player is leaving first, Chadi Riad, with Barcelona maintaining a sell-on clause of around 20 to 25 percent.
“Barcelona are then prepared to close four deals. Talks are advancing for Hamza Alaa, the Egyptian striker, with the deal not done yet but getting closer.
“There is also Ajay Tavares from Norwich. The deal was almost agreed with Leipzig, but Barcelona entered the race and the player decided he wants to go to Barca.
“Barcelona are also close to an agreement for Oier Olazabal, a centre-back, and for Patricio Pacifico, a defender born in 2006.
“These players are expected to join Barca B. This is part of the strategy. Invest in talents with reasonable fees, develop them internally and potentially create future first-team players.
“This is the same model Barcelona used with Roony Bardghji, signed for 2.5 million euros and now a first-team player.”
