Everton chase Callum Wilson as West Ham's striker changes continue
Everton are set to take advantage of West Ham’s striker exodus this month as the Toffees chase the signature of Callum Wilson, according to The Guardian.
The 33-year-old forward only joined the Hammers over the summer, but he has found playing time limited with just eight starts in 17 Premier League appearances.
West Ham are on course for relegation as they sit 17th in the table, eight points away from safety.
Everton, meanwhile, are 12th, but they have scored the seventh-fewest goals with 23 so far.
Wilson has four Premier League goals and one assist in 810 minutes played, including a brace at Bournemouth in November.
Adding Wilson would give David Moyes a Premier League-proven striker, which would be a big boost with current Everton forwards Thierno Barry and Beto only having five league goals between them.
Wilson likely to leave this month
Wilson’s Everton links are the latest in a series of reports casting doubts over his future in East London.
The BBC reported that the nine-time England international was set to terminate his contract last week.
The ex-Bournemouth and Newcastle man has also been linked with a move to Celtic.
At 33, Wilson’s best days may be behind him, but he can still provide a veteran presence up top for goal-hungry teams.
West Ham’s forward overhaul continues
West Ham have signed two forwards — Paulo and Valentin Castellanos — this month, and they allowed Niclas Fullkrug to leave on loan to AC Milan.
The club’s ownership clearly wants to avoid relegation, and the two striker signings also indicate the club is backing manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who joined in late September.
The Hammers are the joint-fourth-lowest goalscorers in the league this season.
Leading scorer Jarrod Bowen has six goals followed by Wilson and Lucas Paqueta on four apiece. The club’s four other goalscorers have a combined six goals between them.
Clearly, they need to find goals if they are going to stay up.
