Chelsea make 'sensible' transfer decision on Rosenior's biggest priority
Chelsea have decided not to recall Borussia Dortmund loanee Aaron Anselmino despite their defensive problems, according to German media.
The Argentine youngster departed Stamford Bridge in the summer as part of Carney Chukwuemeka's permanent move to Dortmund. The Blues insisted that Anselmino had to be part of the package, although his move was only a straight loan.
Anselmino has struggled for fitness this season, but when he has been able to feature for Dortmund, he has been impressive. In fact, such has been his impact that the Bundesliga side have already explored keeping him beyond 2026.
However, Chelsea immediately made it clear that this isn't going to happen, at least not as things stand. The Blues have tracked his progress closely and believe that he can be part of the first team next season.
Even more worrying for Dortmund is the fact that Chelsea have the option to cut his loan short this month. Given the West London outfit's defensive problems this season, bringing in a defender has to be seen as a priority for new coach Liam Rosenior.
Chelsea won't recall Anselmino
Sky Germany reported earlier this week that Dortmund were legitimately worried that Chelsea would recall Anselmino, with director Sebastian Kehl confirming that such a clause indeed exists in his contract.
Naturally, though, the recruitment chief made sure to highlight that it would be the most sensible course of action for Anselmino, who is still recovering from an injury, to see out the season in Germany.
"I believe it makes sense for everyone involved that Aaron also plays for Borussia Dortmund in the second half of the season, to help us, himself, and ultimately Chelsea as well," Kehl said.
WAZ now claims that Dortmund are out of the woods. Chelsea have decided that they will not recall Anselmino and that they are "satisfied" with his development in the Bundesliga.
Anselmino, himself, is loving life at Dortmund. It was previously reported that he would be open to staying beyond this season, but Chelsea ultimately control his future, and they look keen to utilise him next season.
