Chelsea target Valentin Barco is fuming with Strasbourg after being suspended for their upcoming game with PSG.

The Argentine is enjoying a brilliant season in Strasbourg's engine room after being converted from a left-back into a midfielder by Liam Rosenior, who is now in charge at BlueCo sister club Chelsea.

Naturally, Barco's exploits have led to him being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. Rosenior, it has been claimed, has requested that Chelsea sign the 21-year-old.

The Blues have already shown that they have no scruples about poaching Strasbourg's best assets, so it would not be a surprise if Barco were to end up in West London, especially with the Premier League giants known to be in the market for a midfielder.

Be that as it may, Barco is currently a Strasbourg player, and he has now made headlines in France for a somewhat bizarre reason. He is upset with the club because of a yellow card he picked up two weeks ago.

Barco fumes with Strasbourg

Barco received a silly booking in a derby clash with Metz on 18 January for arguing with the referee. Unbeknownst to him and many onlookers at the time, this yellow card was quite consequential.

That is because Barco was still in the midst of a probationary period after receiving a red card against Lens in November. Barco was handed an immediate one-match ban and a further suspended one-match sentence.

To avoid a second ban, Barco was not allowed to pick up a yellow card in the next 10 matches. According to L'Equipe, the Argentine argues that this was not properly communicated to him by Strasbourg.

Had he known about it, he obviously would not have argued with the referee against Metz. Judging by a quote from a source close to the player, he was incandescent when he found out that he would miss Strasbourg's crunch clash with PSG this weekend.

"He wasn't warned," the source said. "It's unprofessional of the club, and especially of [sporting coordinator] Kader Mangane. It's his job! It's completely unacceptable."

Strasbourg acknowledge that this bizarre situation could have been avoided, but they insist that Barco was informed of the terms of his punishment. They believe he misunderstood the information that was passed on to him.
