Celtic 'one step away' from pulling off sensational Premier League hijack
Celtic are "one step away" from signing Hajduk Split midfielder Niko Sigur, according to a report.
The Hoops are in the midst of a hugely important January transfer window, having endured a disastrous season to date. Wilfried Nancy was sacked on Monday after losing six of his eight games in charge, including the Old Firm at the weekend.
Rangers have now overtaken Celtic after beating Aberdeen midweek, but both the Parkhead club and league leaders Hearts have a game in hand over the Ibrox outfit.
The return of Martin O'Neill for a second interim spell of the season has given supporters fresh hope that Celtic can still win the title and have a successful campaign, but the 73-year-old has admitted that signings are required to achieve this goal.
Bournemouth full-back Julian Araujo arrived on loan prior to Nancy's sacking, and Celtic now appear to be closing in on their second recruit of the January transfer window.
Celtic to sign Sigur
According to journalist Izak Ante Sucic, Celtic are "one step away" from completing a deal for Hajduk Split midfielder Niko Sigur. The 22-year-old has impressed this term and played himself onto the radar of several suitors around Europe.
Fabrizio Romano previously revealed that Premier League side Wolves and other clubs from Europe's top-five leagues were keen on a January deal for the versatile midfielder, who can also play right-back.
However, it now looks as though Celtic have won the race for the Canada international's signature. Sucic claims that the deal had been on hold for a few days due to the sacking of Nancy.
Sigur has 15 caps and two goals for Canada to his name. He has also made more than a century of appearances for Hajduk, in which he has netted three times and provided two assists despite primarily being a defensive player. He did play a few games as a winger last term, though.
