Celtic get HUGE Hogh boost as Maloney confirms: We want three more signings!
Celtic assistant Shaun Maloney has revealed that he wants up to three more signings in the final days of the window amid positive news regarding Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Hogh.
The Denmark international has become a priority target for the Hoops following his Champions League exploits. Earlier this week, it was revealed that Celtic had begun exploring a move for Hogh but that they were facing competition from Norwich City.
The Championside made a competitive €8 million bid for the Man City and Atletico Madrid slayer, but Sky Sports now reports that a deal is looking unlikely because Bodo/Glimt have progressed to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Norwich have therefore moved on to different targets and are now in talks to sign Australia international Mohamed Toure from Danish outfit Randers. This could give Celtic a free run at Hogh, but they will, of course, also have to contend with the fact that he may be keen to continue to Bodo/Glimt's fairytale run in Europe.
Elsewhere, reports have suggested that Celtic have agreed a deal to sign Frosinone star Fares Ghedjemis. However, Sky reports that the two clubs remain apart on the structure of the deal. It is a similar story for winger Damir Redzic. Personal terms are agreed, but discussions with Dunajska are proving tricky.
Maloney wants three more signings
Nonetheless, Celtic fans should be heartened by Shaun Maloney's fresh comments, suggesting that as many as three new players could join before the deadline. “I think the difficulty for the club is that we’ve obviously changed manager,” he said.
“Completely changed structure to the previous guy, so I understand, then, that there is a period where the targets completely change, so really happy with the two that we brought in [Julian Araujo and Tomas Cvancara].
“I think if we bring in another two or three, it would be a massive, massive help, but they have to be the right ones. There is no need to bring in numbers. It has to be the right type of player for what we need and what probably the team’s lacking.
“The two that we brought in, I really like, but hopefully we can do two or three more. The work’s been done. In fairness to the board, they’re there and ready to try and get the deals done, and hopefully that happens. It won’t be through a lack of effort.
“We’ve had to do a lot of work in a quick period of time because of the management change, but I’ve been really happy with the list of players that we’ve been given and the types of players. So, yeah, really hopeful that we can all get that done because it’s not always on the board.
“There’s things that we have to do. We have to speak to players, we have to get the players to sort of have a desire to come to work with us. So it’s a collective [effort] really to get this done, and we hope it turns out positive.”
