Mikel Arteta makes transfer request as Arsenal given green light by Barcelona
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has asked the club to complete the signing of Barcelona youngster Dani Rodriguez, according to reports in Spain.
The 20-year-old has only made one senior appearance for his boyhood club, but his performances for Barcelona’s B team have reportedly alerted Arteta to his potential.
Rodriguez has notched two goals and provided five assists in 15 league matches in the Spanish fourth tier so far this campaign and E-Noticies claim that Arsenal have now “focused their attention” on completing a deal for the young winger.
The Spaniard helped his nation win the U19 European Championship in 2024 and Arteta has earmarked him as a potential new signing as he looks to bolster the options available to him at Arsenal.
Furthermore, it’s reported that Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has given the green light to a transfer, with Rodriguez open to leaving Camp Nou in search of regular first-team opportunities.
Arsenal chase new winger
Rodriguez is the latest winger to be linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this year, with the north London outfit seemingly eager to bolster their attacking options in 2026, despite the recent arrivals of Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke.
Reports indicate that Arsenal have lodged an initial enquiry over a potential deal for Paris Saint-Germain superstar Bradley Barcola, amid his uncertain future at the Parc des Princes, while the club have also been linked with a move for AC Milan’s Rafael Leao.
RB Leipzig wonderkid Yan Diomande has been identified as a top target by the Gunners hierarchy too, although he is set to cost at least €100 million this summer and is also wanted by the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.
It comes following speculation that Gabriel Martinelli may be sold this summer. The Brazilian has only started six Premier League matches so far this season and it has been suggested that he is now considering his long-term future at the club as a result of his minimal game time this term.
