Liverpool have announced that Mohamed Salah is not travelling with the team for their Champions League clash against Inter.

The Egyptian superstar dropped a veritable bombshell on Saturday, when he went on an emotional rant after getting benched by Arne Slot for the third consecutive game.

For the second time in those three games, the 33-year-old was an unused substitute as the Reds surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 with newly-promoted Leeds.

The Liverpool legend accused the club of "throwing me under the bus" and claimed that his previously "good" relationship with Slot no longer exists. Salah went so far as to hint that the game against Brighton on 13 December could be his last for Liverpool.

Salah will depart for the Africa Cup of Nations after the match against the Seagulls. By the time he returns, the January window will have opened, leaving his future at the club in doubt.

Salah omitted from Inter clash

On Monday afternoon, Liverpool confirmed what had already been widely reported: Salah was not included in the travelling party that set off for Milan ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash against Inter.

The decision on whether or not to include Salah was reportedly taken out of Slot's hands and instead made by the club's board to send a clear message to the player that the head coach retains the full backing of the bosses despite poor results this season.

After Liverpool touch down in Italy, Slot will face the media at the San Siro at 6.45 pm GMT. His press conference is naturally expected to be dominated by the topic of Salah.

It will be Slot's first time speaking out since Salah's incendiary comments reached the public. His response is likely to be a carefully measured one as Liverpool, for now at least, do not intend on offloading their star winger in January.

In previous interviews, Slot was as diplomatic and conciliatory as possible regarding Salah's situation, being nothing but complimentary of the player's attitude amid his lack of minutes.

Slot is not one for overly heated press conferences, so he will likely attempt to play down the situation while acknowledging that Salah went a step too far by airing his grievances in public.
