Man United goalkeeping situation

While there are reports that Andre Onana wants to return to Manchester United, the club’s decision to part ways with the Cameroon international goalkeeper has been confirmed, Romano reports.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer expert confirmed: “The goalkeeper, currently on loan at Trabzonspor from Manchester United, has been left out of the Cameroon squad for AFCON. It is a difficult moment for Onana, and it also confirms what United have felt for some time - his chapter at the club is considered over.

“Onana will return to Manchester United in June, but the plan is to find a new solution. United see Altay Bayindir as their goalkeeper for the present and the future. For Onana, it is time for a new chapter elsewhere.”

Nicolas Jackson and Bayern future

Another loan star whose time is up at their parent club is Chelsea-owned striker Nicolas Jackson.

“You remember the crazy final days when he wanted to go to Bayern, while Chelsea were still negotiating the terms after the injury to Armando Broja. In the end, the deal was agreed as a loan with an obligation to buy for €65 million, triggered if Jackson played more than 40 matches of at least 45 minutes.

“That clause is already impossible to activate because of the minutes he has played and because he is travelling to AFCON with Senegal. Bayern can still choose to sign him permanently for €65 million, but it would have to be renegotiated.

“What I am told is that Bayern are happy with Jackson's contribution so far, but they want to take their time. Spending that amount is significant for Bayern, so no decision will be made in December or January. The club want to focus on the season and believe they can be competitive in all competitions.

“What I can also say is that the relationship between Jackson and Chelsea is over. Even if Bayern do not sign him permanently and he returns to Chelsea, they will still look for a different solution. There is interest from Italy and elsewhere in England - clubs like Aston Villa wanted him last summer - but the message is clear: Chelsea and Jackson will part ways.”

Antoine Semenyo release clause and interest

One name that continues to generate a good deal of interest from the Premier League’s biggest sides in Antoine Semenyo of Bournemouth.

“I told you about his £65 million release clause, which is not valid during the warm month of January but becomes active a few days into the month. That timing gives Bournemouth time to find a replacement if required,” Romano said.

“Let me confirm two points. First, Manchester United are not in active talks for Semenyo at this stage - they like the player, and Ruben Amorim admires him, but United’s current priority is to invest in midfield.

“Second, both Liverpool and Manchester City have been informed of the clause and remain aware of the conditions. Nothing is decided yet, but the Semenyo story remains alive and will develop over the coming weeks.”

Arsenal stance on Myles Lewis-Skelly

Arsenal have tied several key players down to new contracts in recent times, and they have no intention of letting Myles Lewis-Skelly leave – especially to Chelsea.

“Every international break we hear interest from clubs such as Crystal Palace or West Ham, and today there were even rumours about Chelsea preparing a permanent proposal,” he said.

“Forget about that. Arsenal are very happy with Lewis-Skelly and they are not considering letting him leave. He is seen as a key part of the squad and is highly regarded by Mikel Arteta. From both the player and club side, the message is clear: Lewis-Skelly is part of the project and he is not leaving in January.”

Arsenal signing Ecuadorian duo

The Gunners have completed a double deal for two bright prospects, meanwhile.

"Arsenal are also preparing for the future. Today I confirmed on Instagram the signings of Edwin and Holger Quintero, the 16-year-old wingers from Independiente del Valle. They are in London to sign their contracts this week.

"The deal is done. They will officially join Arsenal in August 2027, when they turn 18, as reported by ESPN. Arsenal are building long-term depth while keeping Lewis-Skelly for the present.”

Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp rumours

Finally, Romano passed comment on the claims this week that have suggested Jurgen Klopp could replace Arne Slot at Liverpool.

“Finally, despite many questions, I am not aware of Liverpool having any contact with Jurgen Klopp. There are many rumours, but the message has been consistent: no conversations, no talks about a return. Klopp is focused on his project with the Red Bull group, and as of now it is quiet between Liverpool and Klopp.”
