Maresca fuels Chelsea SACK rumours with cryptic post-match claim
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has dropped a cryptic hint that rumours he could be sacked by the Stamford Bridge club may not be too far off the mark.
Speaking after Chelsea defeated Everton 2-0 in the Premier League on Saturday, Maresca claimed that he had been going through the “worst 48 hours” he had experienced since signing for the FIFA Club World Cup winners.
The Italian’s comments came a matter of hours after it was claimed that the Blues have asked Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner to reject a new contract at Selhurst Park and instead move west to Stamford Bridge.
Enzo Maresca: Worst 48 hours at Chelsea
Maresca said: “The effort, the open mind, the way they want to learn has been fantastic and this is the reason why I praise the players because with so many problems, they are doing very well after a complicated week.
"Since I joined the club, the last 48 hours have been the worst 48 hours since I joined the club because many people didn't support us.”
The Chelsea manager was asked if he specifically meant the fans, and replied: “Worst 48 hours since I joined the club because people didn't support me and the team.
“I love the fans and we are very happy with the fans.”
Who was Maresca targeting?
Maresca, therefore, left it entirely open to interpretation as to who is not supporting him. After stating it’s not the fans, it does not appear to be the players, leaving those in the Chelsea hierarchy as the obvious target of his comments.
The Blues have seen four managers depart since Todd Boehly took over the club in 2022, though they seem to have found a solid and stable boss in the form of the 45-year-old.
A winless run of four games has seen the pressure ramp up on Maresca and sparked claims that Glasner is being lined up for the post.
