Manchester United have joined Liverpool in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck, according to a report.

The Germany international is facing an uncertain future due to his contract situation. Schlotterbeck is tied to Borussia Dortmund until 2027, and the Bundesliga giants are desperate to agree fresh terms with him.

The 25-year-old is easily Dortmund's most reliable defender, and he knows his worth. Schlotterbeck is stalling on signing a new deal and wants to see how the season plays out before committing to a new contract.

Schlotterbeck has made no secret of his ambitions. While he is not opposed to staying at Dortmund, he wants to battle for silverware and be competitive in the Champions League.

Dortmund are currently on track for a solid season, which should give them a good chance of convincing the defender to stay. However, BILD claims that Schlotterbeck is currently leaning towards a potential departure.

Man Utd enter Schlotterbeck race

His potential availability hasn't gone unnoticed in the Premier League. Liverpool are long-standing admirers of the centre-back, although the German press has sought to downplay the Reds' interest in him recently.

However, according to TEAMtalk, Liverpool remain firmly in the race, and Man Utd are the latest suitors to express an interest. It is claimed that the Red Devils are closely monitoring his performances.

Bayern Munich are also known to be admirers of the defender, but their priority is tying Dayot Upamecano down to a new contract. Barcelona, led by Hansi Flick, who gave Schlotterbeck his Germany debut, are in the mix as well, and a move to Catalunya would appeal to him.

Nevertheless, the report claims that a transfer to the Premier League is a 'concrete possibility' for Schlotterbeck, who is being valued at up to €50 million by Dortmund heading into the January window.
