Forgotten Amorim signing set to leave Man Utd in January
There is a concrete chance that Manchester United left-back Diego Leon will leave the club on loan in January, according to a report.
The Paraguay international was one of the earliest signings of the Ruben Amorim era at Old Trafford. He signed for Man Utd in early 2025, but did not move to the UK until the summer due to only turning 18 in April.
Since joining, Leon has reportedly impressed the Man Utd hierarchy with his application in training and his outings for the U21s. However, the teenager has yet to make a single senior appearance for the Red Devils.
Leon has been an unused substitute in four first-team matches so far this term, remaining on the bench for the entire 90 minutes during clashes with Man City, Brentford, Sunderland and the embarrassing Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby.
Despite not featuring for Man Utd, Leon was handed his senior Paraguay debut in October when he played nine minutes in a friendly loss to South Korea. The youngster is highly rated, but his lack of action at club level could soon result in a change of scenery.
Leon could leave Man Utd on loan
According to journalist Uriel Iugt, there is a chance that Leon will be allowed to pursue a January move away from Man Utd in a bid to get minutes under his belt.
Given that Paraguay have qualified for the World Cup, this course of action likely appeals to the youngster as he seeks to nail down a place for his country ahead of the big tournament in the US, Canada and Mexico.
According to Versus in Leon's native Paraguay, Amorim believes that it is still too early to play the youngster in the Premier League despite his good performances in training.
The report echoes that the 18-year-old will likely leave on loan in January and believes that he will stay in Europe, perhaps even in the Premier League at a smaller club where the pressure isn't as intense as at Man Utd.
