Liverpool will break the Premier League transfer record for a third time in six months should Arne Slot’s side be successful with an astonishing proposal they have made to Real Madrid.

After spending over €450 million in the summer transfer market, including record deals for Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, the Reds are set to delve back into the market in a bid to salvage their ailing season, according to an astonishing report from Spain.

Liverpool are ready to splash out €150m on Real Madrid star Federico Valverde, eager to prise the versatile Uruguay international away from the Bernabeu, Fichajes reports.

Indeed, the report even indicates that the Spanish side have already received the offer from Anfield for the 27-year-old, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €114m.

Although Valverde is considered to be untouchable at Real Madrid, Los Blancos will be forced to seriously consider the prospect of a sale for this offer.

Liverpool are ready to dog them to make a deal happen, while Valverde is set to get the offer of a lifetime from the Premier League champions.

“In addition to the €150m, Liverpool are preparing a salary offer that would double the Uruguayan’s wage, along with a very high signing bonus to finally convince him,” it claims.

Although January is an unusual time to make such big moves, the Reds have had Valverde on their radar for some time and are said to believe that his price could even go up if they wait much longer to get the deal done.

Federico Valverde to Liverpool analysed

Valverde to Liverpool in January would be the biggest mid-season transfer in history, and while the Reds have shown a capacity for huge spending, their priorities lie in strengthening a defence that needs depth both immediately and beyond the summer.

For that reason, it would be astonishing if Slot’s side were to sanction such a monumental deal for Valverde, particularly at the midfielder is well into his peak years.

Given the slow starts that Wirtz and Isak have both made at Anfield, the Reds are likely to be particularly reticent to sanction this deal.

Slot even pointed out that Isak’s issues are due to a lack of pre-season with the club, highlighting that key attacking connections cannot be expected to be found immediately.

And it would take a bid in the region of €150m to tempt Real Madrid into a sale. He is exactly the type of character Xabi Alonso’s side need as they seek to fend off the challenge of Barcelona and win La Liga.

It could be a move for the summer, but not now.
