Liverpool given green light for incredible January as Reds can ‘absolutely’ sign Guehi and Semenyo
Liverpool are in a position to sign both Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo in a spectacular January transfer window, according to one expert pundit.
The Reds splashed out nearly €470 million during a summer that saw them twice break the Premier League transfer record to sign Florian Wirtz and then Alexander Isak.
Despite this, there is scope for Arne Slot’s side to make more moves – and there also appears to be an appetite at Anfield to make even more signings.
In particular, the Reds are likely to be in the hunt for a centre-back after seeing summer arrival Giovanni Leoni go down with a serious injury and having missed out on Crystal Palace ace Guehi.
But Slot’s side are also heavily linked with Bournemouth ace Semenyo, who has been one of the form players in the Premier League so far this season and will not be going to AFCON with Ghana.
Liverpool backed to sign Guehi and Semenyo by transfer expert
According to Sky Sports’ Mark McAdam, Liverpool will have cash to splash when the transfer window opens – and that spells good news for the potential Premier League double swoop.
He told ‘Inside Liverpool’: “They have certainly got the opportunity to spend.
“Liverpool are one of those sides who use data to recruit players. It's the way they've always operated. If they are right for the football club, the market value is correct and he will improve the team, will they sign them? Absolutely.
“They're in the market for players. They want to recruit. They wanted to sign Marc Guehi in the summer on Deadline Day, it didn't go through. Are they still in the market for a defensive-minded player? Absolutely. Will that be executed in January? Absolutely.
“Talking about Guehi, he's going into the last six months of his contract. He can sign a pre-contract agreement with a team outside of the Premier League in January. Or he can wait until the summer where he can look for a better signing-on fee, higher wages and he will have the pick of the best sides in Europe.
“Antoine Semenyo is another player who Liverpool admire. We know that Man City, Spurs and other big clubs in Europe are admirers - who has a release clause. It will be one to watch. Are they looking for a player out wide? Absolutely.”
