Liverpool make FINAL OFFER: Arne Slot loses patience with star man
Liverpool have handed Ibrahima Konate a contract ultimatum, with the France international defender given a take-it-or-leave-it offer that could make him one of the Reds’ best-paid players.
Konate’s contract runs out at the end of the season, with the centre-back having attracted interest from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, who could open talks with him from 1 January.
The Reds are eager to have the centre-back sign a new deal and avoid the drawn-out sagas that plagued them last year with regards Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who ultimately left for the Bernabeu.
With Slot’s side losing patience with the player, Sky Sport Switzerland indicates that he has been made a “final offer” that he must accept or else leave the club.
It states: “Ibrahima Konate’s situation is now clear: the proposal on the table will be the last one offered by Liverpool. They believe they have been very generous with the Frenchman, who continues to flirt with Real Madrid after months of interest.
“If Konate accepts the proposed terms, he will become one of the highest-paid players in Arne Slot’s squad, a sign of the total confidence placed in him.”
Ibrahima Konate: Liverpool star promises news ‘soon’ over new deal
Konate has spoken out on his contract situation, suggesting that there will soon be positive news for Liverpool.
The centre-back said: “I’ve seen a lot of things, particularly in the media. I saw that Liverpool made me a new offer recently. I don’t know where that info comes from. But now, my agents are still discussing with Liverpool. I hope my decision will be made and that I’ll be able to announce what I’ll do very soon.”
Konate played the full 90 minutes for France in their 3-1 World Cup qualification win over Azerbaijan on Sunday along with Liverpool team-mate Hugo Ekitike.
