Arsenal star set for new contract - three months after signing fresh deal
Arsenal are mulling over handing Leandro Trossard another new contract, mere months after he received a pay rise, according to a report.
The Belgium international headed into the previous summer window with a major question mark over his head. Trossard's future at Arsenal was uncertain, and many expected him to depart the club.
Trossard had no shortage of suitors, and with two years left on his contract, the Gunners could perhaps have received a respectable fee for the 30-year-old. However, Mikel Arteta opted to keep the veteran.
Although not a guaranteed starter, Trossard has proved to be an invaluable squad player since joining from Brighton in January 2023. Arsenal recognised this and handed him a pay rise in August to keep him at the club amid strong interest from Besiktas.
Interestingly, the North London giants did not actually extend his contract, which seemed unusual at the time. It has since been revealed that they did the same with David Raya in the summer.
Trossard wants Arsenal extension
It is now being claimed that Trossard is again asking for fresh terms, just three months after signing his current deal. According to The Sun, the winger does not necessarily want more money but longevity.
Trossard is said to be asking for an actual extension this time around, and TEAMtalk claims that he could get it. However, Arsenal may grant his wish with financial calculations in mind, rather than on sentimental grounds.
The report states that Arsenal could tie Trossard down beyond 2027 to boost his value, so that they could still get a decent fee for him either next summer or the following one.
Whatever the case, this is unlikely to be a priority for the Gunners as they have bigger fish to fry. New deals for Bukayo Saka, Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice are much higher on the agenda than handing Trossard a second contract in three months.
